SUMMARY:Kindergarten Simchat Shemot
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to invite you to join us for Simchat Shemot (Celebration of Names) on Sunday\, March 22\, at 11:30 AM! \nOver the past few months\, the children in Kindergarten Mayim and Mayim Tamid have been exploring their Jewish/Hebrew names. Our Kindergartners have learned to recognize and write their names in Hebrew letters\, explored the meaning of their names and the reasons their parents chose them\, heard stories from the Torah in which our ancestors received new names\, and created beautiful projects to showcase everything they learned. Simchat Shemot (Celebration of Names) is a culmination of this wonderful exploration! \nThis event will be held at TBS. We will join together for a brief service that will include a presentation by the children and a very special naming ceremony for those receiving their Jewish names for the first time. Following the service\, we will have a gallery walk\, where the children’s artwork will be on display\, along with a delicious bagel brunch. We look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Aya Korem Pop-up Concert
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 19\, 7:00 PM \n\n\n\nAya Korem has been described as “one of the most talented\, independent\, and beloved singers of Israel’s younger generation!” Her music beautifully blends literary lyrics with thoughtful pop and folk influences. She has enjoyed collaborating with some of the best-known musicians in Israel. Aya just finished a incredibly successful U.S. tour that brought her to Palo Alto\, Los Angeles\, Seattle\, Austin\, and New York City. Due to the violence in Middle East\, Aya’s planned return to Israel has been delayed and she has agreed to come to Boston for a pop-up ‘one night only’ concert at Temple Beth Shalom. This promises to be an incredible evening! Questions? Please contact Cantor DJ Fortine. \n\n\n\nTickets for TBS members are available at the subsidized rate of $18/person. If you are trying to purchase tickets as a TBS member and the link is not working\, please check which email address you’re entering\, or contact programs@tbsneedham.org for assistance.  If you are not a TBS member\, please click here to purchase tickets at $45/person (also a subsidized rate).

SUMMARY:America@250: Our Nation\, Our Democracy\, and Our Jewish Community
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, the United States will celebrate 250 years of independence. In Judaism\, historic milestones invite introspection and a repledging of oneself to foundational values. Over the past several years\, non-partisan organizations like Bright Line Watch\, which regularly monitor the health of American democracy have noted that democratic norms and institutions have weakened. These groups consider such values-rooted conventions as the state of free and fair elections\, free speech\, and equal application of the law. As well\, importantly\, the Jewish community is directly affected by the state of our democracy. Historically\, the safety of Jews and our ability to flourish have long been dependent upon healthy American democratic norms and protections. \nAs an essential outgrowth of Temple Beth Shalom’s Tzedek/Justice work\, TBS is organizing to support the strengthening of our democracy. This engagement is rooted in our commitment to both civic responsibility and to Judaism’s core values of fostering a righteous\, fair society. To this end\, on Thursday evening March 5th\, we are grateful for the opportunity to welcome Aaron Dorfman\, the CEO of A More Perfect Union: The Jewish Partnership for Democracy. The Jewish Partnership for Democracy is a non-partisan initiative that has brought together over 200 Jewish organizations – across denominations\, geographies\, and political beliefs – to fortify American civic life. As we commemorate our nation’s semiquincentennial\, join us as we partner to reinforce and uphold the democracy that both binds our nation and grounds our Jewish community.

SUMMARY:Canceled: "Our Tears Are the Same": Bereaved Israelis and Palestinians Reach for Peace
DESCRIPTION:Due to the snowstorm\, this program has been postponed until further notice. \nJoin us as we welcome two inspirational speakers – Israeli and Palestinian – from The Parents Circle – Families Forum. The Parents Circle-Families Forum is a joint Israeli-Palestinian organization made up of more than 800 bereaved families. Their common bond is that they have lost a close family member to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But\, instead of choosing revenge\, they have chosen a path of reconciliation and of pursuing a peaceful\, safe shared society in the Middle East. Tens of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians have been positively impacted by the work of The Parents Circle and by their shared embrace of the sanctity of human life. We are honored to welcome Elana Kaminka (an Israeli-American whose son was killed on October 7th) and Arab Aramin (a resident of East Jerusalem whose sister – at the age of ten – was killed outside her school by a border officer). This promises to be a moving and meaningful evening. If you have any questions\, please contact Rabbi Jay (jperlman@tbsneedham.org).

DESCRIPTION:The Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC) is the Israeli Reform Movement’s most senior organizing body working to promote equality\, democracy\, civil rights\, and pluralism throughout Israel. With the rise of right-wing political power in Israel\, the Reform Movement has been on the front lines to protect vulnerable populations\, to fight against discrimination\, and to ensure that Reform Jewish values are upheld in Israeli society. Register: t-b-s.me/israelrac\nOrly Erez-Likhovski (she/her) received her law degree from Tel Aviv University and her master’s degree in law from Columbia University.
